Construction Resumes at GM Canada’s New CTC McLaughlin Advanced Technology Track in Oshawa


Construction and paving work resumed this week at the General Motors Canada McLaughlin Advanced Technology Track in Oshawa Ontario, with work now expected to be completed later this year. An official grand opening is planned for the spring of 2021. The multi-million-dollar investment was announced in May 2019, at the time of GM’s Oshawa Transformation Agreement when GM invested C$170M in its Canadian operations. The testing facility and track are the first in Canada’s automotive industry specifically purposed for the testing of advanced General Motors vehicle software and technologies that will enable a future vision that is self-driven, all-electric, and highly connected.

Ultium Drive to be a Key Component of GM’s All-Electric Future


General Motors’ next-generation EVs are expected to be powered by a family of five interchangeable drive units and three motors, known collectively as “Ultium Drive.” Ultium Drive will help the company transition its current portfolio to a fully electric lineup, providing significant advantages over GM’s previous EVs in performance, scale, speed to market and manufacturing efficiencies.

General Motors’ Future Electric Vehicles to Debut Industry’s First Wireless Battery Management System


General Motors will be the first automaker to use an almost completely wireless battery management system, or wBMS, for production electric vehicles. This wireless system, developed with Analog Devices, Inc., will be a primary driver of GM’s ability to ultimately power many different types of electric vehicles from a common set of battery components.
