Meet Kunal Fegade, Manufacturing Engineering intern at the Oshawa Assembly Plant.

1)  How long have you been at GM and what is your current role?

I just began my journey at GM about a month ago, at the beginning of May. I am working in the General Assembly – Flex Chassis as a summer intern at the Oshawa Assembly Plant. Presently, an interesting task I am leading is the Throughput Improvement Process (TIP) for which I am extracting and analyzing the data to identify critical zones across different functions. Additionally, I am assisting with the GM asset records and the Asset Recovery System.

2)    What brought you to GM for your internship?

Diversity, work-life balance, sport events and community work are a few things that attracted me towards GM initially. But the list doesn’t stop there. Everyone’s commitment converges towards the vision of the company and there are so many learning opportunities within the brand that I am sure four months is only very little time to explore.

3)    What is the best part about your job?

Everyone values and critiques my ideas and understands my goals. As an engineer and an MBA candidate, I can put my foot into both the technology and business aspects to gain a holistic experience. The people around me are very helpful and great to work with. The environment is not just about work but about fun, motivation, knowledge, personal branding and being associated with General Motors in any way.

4)    What’s your favourite GM vehicle?

V8 ZL1 Camaro.

5)    If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

This is the best question ever. For a while, I have been following several videos and news on the FLAT-EARTH theory (strange flight routes, flat deserts and ice masses, blah, blah…). I desperately want to explore what this mysterious continent of Antarctica is to know if there is really anything worth discovering!

6)    What do you do on your free time?

Managing money is not something that school teaches you. Now that I am earning money at the beginning of my career, I started conducting my own research on personal wealth management. I like to keep myself updated on the related investing trends.

Other things that I like to do in my free time are playing squash, badminton and going Kayaking.

7)    What’s the last thing you watched on tv?

      Black Mirror.

8)    What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you recently?

On my first day at GM, I still had the price tag on my new shirt until one of my co-workers told me. I got lucky because the group photo was taken that day, but it was after I removed the price tag!
