In February 2020, Sam Luinstra, a vehicle regulatory analyst at our Canadian Headquarters, travelled to Northern Ghana for a two-week volunteer mission trip. Joining 31 volunteers from Canada and the U.S., Sam rolled-up his sleeves to assist with a dormitory construction project in a community needing a helping hand.
While some volunteers worked with teachers in the local elementary school to teach and create lesson plans for more than 250 students, the rest worked alongside Ghanaian builders to set footings, lay a foundation and pour concrete for the 50-room, 23,500 square foot building. The dormitory is being used for accommodations, peace and reconciliation meetings, youth leadership rallies, and health and agricultural seminars.
In addition to his mission work, Sam is a passionate volunteer at GM Canada who regularly works with ‘The Refuge’ in Oshawa, where he played a big role in rallying fellow employees to get involved in this year’s Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.
We’re thankful for employees like Sam. Thank you for giving back to communities – around the world!
