They are the rock-solid pickups that all others are measured against. The most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickups on the road.* But there's much more that distinguishes Silverado 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD pickups. There are hauling capacities that are nothing short of remarkable. And advanced technology that helps generate fuel-efficient power, highlighted by the sophisticated Two-Mode Hybrid System on Silverado Hybrid. And Silverado continues to find new ways of making your pickup respond to your needs - for 2010 all 1500 models feature StabiliTrak®. The pickups that work as hard as you do - Chevy Silverado.
* Dependability based on longevity, as sourced from R.L. Polk Canada, Inc.; Canadian Vehicle in Operation registrations as of July 1, 2008 (model years 1988 to 2007) and Total New Vehicle Registrations for the full-size light-duty pickup truck segment, including chassis cabs. Calculations based on percentage of vehicles remaining in operation, weighted on age of vehicle.
** Silverado 1500 Crew Cab and Extended Cab scored five-star ratings for both driver and front-passenger seating positions in the frontal crash test and for the front and rear seating positions in the side-impact crash test. Silverado 1500 Regular Cab scored 5-star ratings for both driver and front-passenger seating positions in the frontal crash test and for the front seating position in the side-impact crash test. Models tested with and without optional side-impact air bags. U.S. government ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) (safercar.gov).

Hydroformed through the application of very high levels of hydraulic pressure, the steel front frame section is stronger, lighter and more precise than conventional welded steel frames. The mid-frame begins as a solid, straight piece of high-strength steel. The steel is then rolled into shape without stamping, allowing it to retain its strength with no added mass. The rear frame is a strong straight-rail design (on Chassis Cab only) that easily accepts a variety of trailer hitches. It also enhances towing ability. |

If you intend to use your Silverado for towing, we recommend the available Trailering Special Equipment Packages.
This heavy-duty package includes a weight distributing platform trailer hitch receiver, a heavy-duty 8-lead wiring harness with a 7-way sealed connector, extra capacity transmission cooling, a high capacity air cleaner and 4 blunt cut wires for an aftermarket brake controller.
This heavy-duty package includes a weight distributing platform trailer hitch with a 2.5" receiver, and a 7-way sealed connector.
The available integrated brake controller enables the trailer's brakes to operate in sync with the vehicle's brakes. The controller is integrated with Silverado's electrical system and anti-lock braking system. To activate the controller, simply turn on the switch located on the lower left section of the instrument panel.
Silverados provide a wide variety of cab types, powertrains and payload and trailering capacities for use in commercial applications. In fact, there are so many choices, a detailed review of requirements with a knowledgeable salesperson is recommended to ensure proper truck selection.
Obviously, payload capacity is important. Selecting a 1500 series to do the work of a "one-ton" pickup is false economy as the result will be unsatisfactory performance and premature failures. Special applications such as snow plowing or trailering can place abnormally high loads on the front or rear axle components. For example, a typical 8/8 foot snow plow requires at least a 2500HD pickup to provide sufficient front Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) to handle this extra weight.
If towing is a concern, the available Duramax 6.6L Diesel engine should be considered. Not only is it very efficient, but it also generates some impressive towing capacity. If these savings will cover the additional engine cost in a relatively short time, the durability of a diesel should be considered.
The importance of reliability cannot be over-emphasized in commercial vehicles. Which is why we build them to withstand the daily rigours of commercial applications. In the unlikely event that you do run into any problems, the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers most defects for 3 years or 60,000 km (whichever comes first).
