Maintaining Your Warranty

Expand Section

Here are a few simple tips that you can follow to ensure that your vehicle warranty is maintained. Be sure to read your Owner’s Manual for all situations that may affect your vehicle warranty.

Modifications & Accessories

  • Adding non-dealer accessories to your Chevrolet could cause malfunction or damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Damage to vehicle components resulting from the installation or use of non-GM certified parts is not covered by the vehicle warranty and may affect remaining warranty coverage for affected parts.

Collision Parts

  • The use of Genuine GM parts can help maintain your GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
  • The GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover aftermarket parts.
  • Used original GM parts may be an acceptable choice to maintain the appearance and safety performance of your Chevrolet. However, the history of these parts is not known and therefore they are not covered by the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Manual Transmission

  • Do not rest your hand on the shift lever while driving. The pressure could cause premature wear in the transmission and repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal while driving or while stopped. The pressure can cause premature wear in the clutch and repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Do not skip gears while upshifting. This can cause premature wear in the transmission and repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Automatic Transmission

  • Shifting out of P (Park) or N (Neutral) with the engine running at high speed may damage the transmission. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Fuel

  • Some additives are not compatible with recommended fuel and can harm the fuel system. Damage caused by additives would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Do not use fuel with methanol. It can corrode metal parts in the fuel system and also damage plastic and rubber parts. That damage would not be covered under the vehicle warranty.

Jumper cables

  • If the jumper cables are connected or removed in the wrong order, electrical shorting may occur and damage the vehicle. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Scheduled maintenance

  • Maintenance intervals, checks, inspections, recommended fluids, and lubricants are necessary to keep your vehicle in good working condition. Damage caused by failure to follow scheduled maintenance might not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Engine oil

  • Use only engine oil that is approved to dexosTM specification or an equivalent engine oil of the appropriate viscosity grade. Failure to use the recommended engine oil or equivalent can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Lack of proper engine oil maintenance can damage the engine. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Engine Coolant

  • If an improper coolant mixture is used, the engine could overheat and be badly damaged. The repair cost would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
  • Engine damage from running the engine without coolant is not covered by the warranty.

Tachometer

  • Do not operate the engine with the tachometer in the shaded warning area. Any resulting damage would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
