July 8 – 18th
The dust has settled and the 2011 Calgary Stampede has come to a close, but the memories are still riding high. 1,174,469 people attended “The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth,” which was jam-packed with activities, laughter and good old Western hospitality. GMC – which has been the official sponsor for 25 years – was proud to be there every step of the way to help keep the spirit of the Stampede in full force.
Here are some highlights:
Exhilarating – right to the finish line.
Alyssa Green, a 23 year old from Peterborough, Ontario, was one of the many people who entered GMC’s country-wide Saddle Up a Sierra contest. She was thrilled to be one of the four finalists chosen to be paired up with a chuckwagon team for the designated chuckwagon race on July 16th – and her excitement only grew with a very close call at the finish line. Two chuckwagon teams, one of which was Alyssa’s, finished 3/100th of a second apart. The finalists anxiously waited for the results, until the winner was determined by a photo finish. Imagine Alyssa’s excitement when she heard her team had done it – she had won the GMC Sierra 3500 HD!
GMC Rangeland Derby has a winner!
Kelly Sutherland did it again for a record 12th win! The Grand Prairie chuckwagon driver won the top $100,000 prize at the GMC Rangeland Derby final of the Calgary Stampede on July 17. Reg Johnstone was the Best Aggregate Time winner of the derby – and the proud new owner of a GMC Sierra 3500 HD.
Serve up some breakfast - The GMC way.
During the annual GMC Breakfast, GMC owners and their friends got to enjoy a traditional Stampede breakfast, a very special exhibition of chuckwagon racing, and a treat - GMC test drives around the Grandstand track.
Congratulations to all of our winners. We thank everyone who attended and participated in this year’s Stampede – we can hardly wait for next year, the 100th Calgary Stampede!
