GM Canada recently donated a 2008 van to United Way in the hopes of enhancing lives by providing the transportation needed for Winnipeggers to access meaningful opportunities.

All expenses associated with the van, including fuel, maintenance and insurance, will also be covered by GM Canada.

Investing in Canadian communities

"Strong, healthy communities don't just happen. They are made possible by the dedication of the people who live in them, by the businesses and companies that locate in them and those who invest in them," said Diane Lehman, GM Canada's Manager of Charitable Donations. "At General Motors of Canada we are firm believers in investing in communities across Canada. Not only where we have operations, but where we have customers, dealers and where there is a need."

"A van is kids being able to experience the joy of achievement,"

said Scott Sanders, Chair of United Way's Board of Trustees. "It's families learning they can not only make ends meet but plan for a bright future. And it's thriving neighbourhoods energized by connected, happy and healthy people."

Nine of United Way's agency partners will share the Community Wheels van including: Age & Opportunity, Elmwood Community Resource Centre, International Centre, Kildonan Youth Activity Centre, Knowles Centre, Pregnancy and Family Support Services, Versatech, West Broadway Youth Outreach and Urban Circle Training Centre.

Community Wheels is a community transportation program that provides General Motors' vehicles to selected communities across the country through United Way and their agencies.
